GE compactor- In use for just over 2 1/2 years and the foot pedal/ lever piece attached to bottom metal rail has worn through. No real way to repair the hole that the pedal screw goes through as it™™s integral to the whole main body part of the compactor. No way to open compactor or compact trash without foot pedal:( Our old compactor worked years and years with no such issues!! Very expensive GE compactor to last less than 2 1/2 years!!

Foot pedal is basically working inconsistently from either design or use either of which is unacceptable. Will be ordering a model that not hands free as this was advertised. So disappointed.

The first one lasted less than 3 years. Poor compunction and very loud. Does NOT have solid pack feature. I only bought another one because the extended warranty replaced it for the same money but I had to pay the difference plus delivery and installation. I will never have
another one from GE. ð

I really hate the hidden controls and you cannot stop the compactor with the plunger down to make sure things stay compacted. Right now bottles pop right back into shape. And the plunger does not seem to go down as far as other models do.

The drawer doesn't open all the way with the foot pedal. Have to use hands to open and close and without a handle there are constant finger prints on appliance. poor design. If I could give this a zero I would have. Think I'm done with GE products. seems they skip the R&D. Put a high price on it . Overpriced piece of junk.

bought this unit to replace the previous one after the motor died. the new unit worked great until I noticed the foot pedal on the drawer hanging lose! upon further inspection I discovered the metal cutout the pedestal screwed into broke off! So basically, the while unit is affected because of a very small piece of metal, Sad :(

I've only had this a few day's so I cannot really give a good review. So far it does what it's supposed to do, Very easy to install
My only complaint is that there is no drawer handle, but I knew this when ordering. I just used to the door handle from my old compactor. I'll get used to it.

GE is quickly becoming one of my least favorite brands of product to buy. This trash compactor does not come with a press and hold option and it is very cheaply made and poorly designed. There is a foot pedal that operates everything that is plastic. And insanely that is not even the failure point. The failure point is the thin metal that it connects to that has failed after less than a year of use.

Absolute garbage (trash compactor joke). The foot pedal is the only way to open it and the design is terrible - screws come loose in less than a year and you can tighten them but they just fail again after a few uses. Plastic parts. Even replacing the foot pedal assembly with a new one will result in the same failure some time after regular use. I™™ll have to replace this with a better quality product from another manufacturer and I™™ll be out $1200

Needed a new compactor fast and it was here quickly. It works great and looks slick. I love that the foot petal opens it and if you push up on it with your foot it compacts it instead of a dial so the front looks clean and it™™s 100% hands free!

Love the Look, sleek and modern. Love the foot release, press down for opening and up for compacting. A little concerned as to how it gets opened if the machine ever gets jammed because of no handle but.... however, will cross that if/when it ever happens. Capacity is standard. Installation was a snap as it just rolls into the space and plugs in with minor height adjustment to counter.
Does not seem any noisier than our old Jenn-Air. Just wish it had the touches stainless steel since there is no handle for closing. We use our knee to close and that can leave marks if wearing shorts/skirts. Over all very satisfied with its performance and pricing.

Capacity is good, not too noisy, performance has been good, this GE Compactor has a nice sleek look in stainless steel. It feels like it will be durable for years to come. My last compactor last 30 years and I expect this one to last as long; although, I am not going to last that long. Have a Blessed Day, from a little old lady.

This is the only compactor that will fit into my 26+ year old kitchen design. I had a KitchenAid that lasted 20 years and installed the previous version of this model which had 4 service calls in 5 years and was totalled as parts were not available. I woudln't choose this if you can fit another brand, the GE construction as with all their products is sub-par. I have a dishwasher from them as it was the only one that fit with 3 service calls already in 3 years.

This is our second GE Profile Trash Compactor. We purchased our last compactor seven years ago and were very happy with just about every aspect of it: the capacity was tremendous; we were able to go at least a full week before having to empty the compactor and change to a new bag. We never had a problem with the functioning of the machine during the time we had it, and did not find it to be overly noisy. While I would not call the compacting cycle quiet, the cycle is brief enough that the sound from the compacting cycle is not a major distraction. Our only real complaint with the GE trash compactor was its lifespan. Seven years seems to be an unreasonably short lifespan. If a repair had been possible, I would be singing a different song. But to be told that GE was no longer making replacement parts is not acceptable IMHO! Planned obsolescence after a seven-year run is not the mark of a quality brand! If we have the same experience with our new GE Trash Compactor, it will also be our last GE Trash Compactor. Wish us luck, please!

This compactor was installed 2 1/2 years ago and has stopped working. Had a certified GE repair out that said they didn't know what was wrong and they couldn't order parts or fix it. I will be contacting GE to see if they can help me with this!

Had this for just 2 years and the bottom pedal broke off, as the bolt housing is of flimsy material and wears out and breaks. I noted a dozen or more other reviews saying the same thing, giving this unit a 1 star. The GE parts department said the replacement drawer unit is $495. That is outrageous for a $1,295 appliance that will only last 2 years before you have to spend another $500 on it. Don™™t buy this unit!!

I like the compactor but it only opens about an inch when you step on the bar. I haven™™t manually pull the compactor open. I have had several compactors over the years and this vice only one I™™ve ever owned that didn™™t open further automatically.

Loved it for 2 years until a design error caused the pedal to come loose and pose a safety hazard. A pivot hole for the pedal is metal on metal and very close the the edge, resulting in the hole expanding and pulling out. Typical design standards are 1.5D to 2.5D edge distance. These two holes are <0.5D - violating good engineering practice. Hopefully GE will rectify the problem.

This trash compactor is very strong and allows us to only use 1-2 trash bags per week for a family of 2. The convenience of limiting trips to trash is worth the cost of this machine. The clean lines match our modern kitchen design well. Highly recommend.
